UPDATE
New music, new beginnings...
In a year that's certainly looking to be busy for the UK gospel music industry, a few UKG-based thoughts...
Well, where to start...?

"New CDs for UKG Shop.com, new audio for UKG Presents.com and new content for you to enjoy...". That just about sums it up.

As the first month of 2007 starts to come to an end, a lot of the product I chased for inclusion on UKG Shop is almost all in place (with more to come before January runs out), and some of it is actually quite good (as you'd expect from a store that stocks nothing but 100% UK music)...

The basic premise still hasn't changed for me: I don't assume anything. I'm going to make sure I can get the best information and product about the UK industry to you, as quickly as I can, and as best as I can, and not presuppose you know about it.

In other words, the info and product finds you, not the other way round.
And there's even more good news: my planned UKG multi-platform upgrade (UKG Shop, UKG Presents, UK Gospel.com, to mention just 3) starts in 2007! Yes, I know, I'm quite a bit behind on all these updates (UKG Spin!, the 100% UK radio channel was due for launch in 2003!!! How embarrassing is that?!!!)

Anyway, that side of things is going to be part of another feature coming your way shortly, so without further ado, here's what this piece is all about: new CDs on UKG Shop.com, which means new FREE AUDIO to listen to on UKG Presents.com!

NEW MUSIC
ADELAIDE MACKENZIE Daily Process (Struggs)
It was a long time coming (it was actually pre-showcased at London's
JAZZ CAFÉ a while back), but the two-time GEM nominated vocalist and
all-round, superb live performer finally released this, her debut late last
year).

As it turns out, it has some excellent gems on it, with 'something for everyone' (a phrase that can genuinely be applied to the project): SO FINE is a Soulful/RnB/'Housey' kind of cut, I WAS LOST NOW I'M FOUND lays down a smooth head nodder of a backbeat under some deep Spoken Word messages, and SO REAL should occupy the same space of reverence that fans accord RAYMOND & COs 'CRAZY FAITH'. Well worth checking out...

THE DUNAMIS COLLECTIVE Real Love (Dunamis Records)
This comes from so far leftfield that I'm sure that it's going to take
quite a few people a while to get this grower. A 12-strong
collective of producers, DJs and singer-songwriters introduce a range
of not-your-run-of-the-mill collection of songs. Influences range
from Soul to Dance to RnB to House... Deserving of your attention.

TENDAI Exceedingly Abundantly (Awake Records)
OK, any one who knows proper Old-school Reggae will recognise the
influence of the masters, particularly DENNIS BROWN on this one.
Producer DON RICARDO does a sterling job on the late TENDAI's
debut album, chock-full of superb Reggae-Gospel, and it comes very
highly recommended!! Give it a listen and make up your own mind,
but I LOVE it!!

GREENJADE Gunz Down (OTR/Jade-Eye Knight)
GREENJADE's anti-gun/anti-weapon schools initiative started in the
summer of 2006, and has already seen two rounds of school visits in

front of near enough 10,000 11-16 year olds. There's no doubt (in my
mind anyway) that GREENJADE is one of the several unsung heroes
in UK gospel music.

This enhanced CD features the GUNZ DOWN video, web links complementing the Gunz Down project and the full lyrics to the song. You also get a rather tasty Drum n Bass version (again highlighting the flexibility of a mature Hip-hop group happy to experiment with other genres...)

NOEL ROBINSON Garment Of Praise (Jubal Communications)
I don't really need to say too much about this. UK Gospel.com's 'Behind
The Beat' feature (essentially the story of how a project came about -
from the artists point of view - says it all. Look it up). What made this
feature special was that it wasn't just NOEL's words on the page, but
it was also the first time on UK Gospel.com that a feature was accompanied by quality audio as part of the feature.

In the meantime the double-CD album has already sold to places as far afield as Germany... Like I said - not much more to add, really.

SHARON ST LOUIS Waiting On You (Xtreme)
5-track debut from London-based Sharon - who roped in SPIRITLED
PRODUCTIONS for the remix treatment - with production on the main
tracks coming from DELIRIOUS ENT. Sharon keeps a blog of her
experiences both in terms of her personal life and life relating to the
promotion of the CD. Check out her website for full details

ELM PROJECT Gospel Reggae Vibes (ELM Productions)
ELM PROJECT's 'various artists' album - conceptualised and produced by
Nottingham's ERROL L MUNDLE (hence the ELM) - weighs in at another
end of the Reggae spectrum, paying homage to Lovers Rock, with a solid
gospel message.

Faithful interpretations (both in terms of arrangement and style) of contemporary gospel classics mean fans of the genre will love this. Tracks include covers from FRED HAMMOND (the classic Don't Pass Me by) BEBE AND CECE WINANS (Lost Without You) and DON MOEN (GREAT IS YOUR MERCY) - to mention just three - mean this is definitely one to investigate.

However, being the 'Urban' head that I am means I have TOTALLY fallen for the tracks that (in
my book) make this collection an absolute must-have: the sample-based, totally edgy Reggae/Ragga/Bashment call-it-what-you-want selection, voiced by ERROL's co-Nottingham native, SHAMA: WHA' YOU A SEARCH FOR (sample base: KIRK FRANKLIN's 'What U Looking 4') and SEEK JESUS CHRIST (sample base: DESTINY'S CHILDs 'Bug-A-Boo') - quality!
Again, don't take MY word for it, have a listen to the mix, and make up your own mind!

Anyway, gotta go: I've so much content to add on this January (next big announcement: all the version 2 projects: UK Gospel.com, UKG Shop.com, UKG Presents.com and more)...

Don't forget - check out the music, and let me know what you think!
