(Updated with concert details. See below)
I never met TENDAI.

He was quite high up on my 'make contact with/must do an interview' list. As it turns out, I'll never get the chance this side of heaven.

I really liked his voice, having heard some of his work on ALAN CHARLES' 'DA PLAN' album. His soft, roots-Reggae style vocals is also what made 'DON'T FIGHT THE FEELING' from 2 TRUE's 'URBANOX' EP - released a couple of years ago - such a strong, compelling song.

The official press release from AWAKE RECORDS who released his debut album follows.

Another saint has gone ahead. It is left to us to keep running the race.

AWAKE are at the early stages of investingating some kind of a support/love offering for his family. We'll keep you posted...

Awake Records Official Release: 2nd August 2006...
It is with great heartfelt sadness to inform and or confirm to you that on Monday the 1st of August 2006, Top UK Reggae Gospel Artist, TENDAI has died. The full details of his death is not yet disclosed until his autopsy, but we understand that he had some sort of chest infection which eventually cause him to be hospitalised. He was later placed on a life support machine which was sadly switched off on Monday night.

TENDAI was a young 38 year old man, he leaves behind 3 children aged betweeen 6 and 16 and his wife Agnes Gamure.

He was born in Zimbabwe, Africa a happy-go-lucky type of child. During the seventies BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS visited his home town, and, captivated by the king of Reggae music TENDAI was soon influenced by the music and decided to become an international Reggae star and thus CULTURE T, was born.

Over the years he would be asked to make guest appearences of diffrent Reggae sound systems and made a big name for himself on the sound circuit. He also made a few albums and became very popular throughtout Zimbabwe.
In 1989 Tendai moved to London where he finished off his education. By this time in his life he also became a Rastafarian and remained true to its teachings. In early 1995 Tendai accepted Christ and became a born again Christian, later on that year he came into contact with AWAKE RECORDS and submitted a demo.

At this time there was hardly any gospel Reggae around so AWAKE seized the opporunity and invested in his ministry. He was AWAKE's first ever signed artist. It would be another 3 years before AWAKE got the album off the ground, as TENDAI was still a babe in Christ and needed to grow more before being released. By 1998 it paid off both spiritually and naturally with the release of 'EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY'. The album has sold all over the world from the UK,
Europe, USA, Africa and the West Indies.

Tendai will be sadly missed by every life that he touched with his, charm, his wisdom, his gift of helps, his music and most of all his love and passion for the things of God...
