NEW SERIES
...more than music...
MORE ACCESS THAN EVER - BUT...
With the proliferation of social networking, tapping into
the underground scene has become a double-edged
adventure in music research: it's easier, but -
somewhat ironically - it's also more difficult...

Good news/bad news...
You'll probably find (as I have) that to get at the good stuff there's a
whole lot of wading to do...
whole lot of wading to do...
However, on the plus side the multi-platform, multi-media possibilities that have now opened up herald fresh insight into the creative mind as photos, videos, blogs as well as interactive (not to mention highly addictive) applications create access to a life beyond the artists' CD, MySpace or Facebook player...
GUVNA B, SAMMY G, DWAYNE TRYUMF, GOSPEL LINK (via GL LIVE), [VERB] SWISH, URBAN MISSION and KARL NOVA (just to mention a few names) have used these tools in pretty clever ways, delivering some highly engaging content while providing insight into their mental, spiritual and creative processes...
To a large extent, that's what this new series is about: the journey beyond the music, investigating why many of our creatives do - and think - the way they do.
The MySpace blogs, Facebook Notes, random thoughts, video diaries and such are
the pefect accompaniment to the the diverse music products we're all familiar

This is an extract (actually it's more of a wholesale copy/paste job) from ICIE's

COMMISSION sign to a NEW label!!!
In 1997 the underground rap group 'The LOX' signed a 6 album deal with the hit factory BADBOY RECORDS. Following a string of cameo appearances the group decided to part ways with the record label in 1999, due to differences in culture and

BADBOY wanted shiny suits and hits - THE LOX wanted a more grittty, true to the streets feel, which could be achieved at RUFF RYDERS.
However due to the break in contract the release would cost BADBOY a further
$3 million dollars to release them, as a result P.DIDDY decided that he would rightfully hold on to the publishing rights of the group, owning up to 50% of rights, which meant he was able to collect up to $300,00 dollars advance when a member of the group released a solo album.
A fierce battle erupted as THE LOX started a 'FREE THE LOX' campaign and went on air to vent their frustrations.

After going back and forth, DIDDY eventually released their publishing rights to them... allowing them to become FREE AGENTS to sign to RUFF RYDERS RECORDS.
The Bible Scripture in Romans 6 verse 16,17,18 says:
16. Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do
his will, you are the slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which
leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness (right doing and
right standing with God)?
17. But thank God, though you were once slaves of sin, you have become
obedient with all your heart to the standard of teaching in which you were
instructed and to which you were committed.
18. And having been set free from sin, you have become the servants of
righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in thought, purpose, and action).

Just Like THE LOX... COMMISSION and all of us around the world were born into a contract of SIN we were signed from birth to DEATHROW records (for the wages of sin is death :) )
We made music for them, lived for them, our hearts were for that record company ....HOWEVER... A time came when we were awakened to what we were doing, the music we were playing, the life we were living... And we decided that 'you know what... I don't want to be on this label anymore.. I want out of this contract...'
The only problem was... the CEO (Mr. S. Atan) had our publishing rights, he held the rights to how we lived our lives, he was the boss and we were slaves to the label.
But THANK GOD! ...A lawyer (Mr. Emmanuel Messiah) from a small town came to take our side and took up the case in court and paid our $3 MILLION dollars, PAID ALL MONIES OWED, and gave us NEW PUBLISHING RIGHTS to live life to the MAX!

Upon releasing us from our contract we became FREE AGENTS but chose to sign with Christocentric Recordings, coming under the CEO's wing (Mr I.Am) who took us
through artist developement and training.
So far being on the label has been fab! ..Even though we don't always reach the mark in terms of sales, we don't get dropped... On the contrary more money and time is invested in us to make us even better!
THANK YOU BOSS!!! Shout out to Comforter Productions - and all the management team at Pearly Gates!
Whose label are you on...?
