Oasis Awards 2006
OK, the Oasis is done for 2006. Yesterday HACKNEY EMPIRE in East London played
host to a variety of guests from all over the country - as well as a few award surprises...

My editorial on the Oasis itself will be ready soon, but it kinda makes sense to get the award list out of the way right away. That way I know you'll be paying attention to what I'm saying rather than skimming over it to get to the list...
However, here's a spoiler alert: before I thank my dog, my cat and all the cars in the car park downstairs, I'd like to thank those of you that not only nominated UK Gospel.com in the 'Best Website' category, but went ahead to vote again for it to win!!!
...And I apologise for being so unprepared and bumbling through my acceptance speech. It's only because I thought UnitedByOne.co.uk would have walked it. I STILL think so.
So, to JAMES and CHRISTOPHE at UB1, LEE 'GRANTLY' GRANT at STR8UP.co.uk, DJ PROCLAIMA at SOULCURE.COM, this one is truly for all of us. It's a privilege to think our collective work has taken Internet publishing to a place where it's thought of as deserving its own category in an awards ceremony...
And to the artists that have allowed themselves to be featured here: thank you for allowing me

to run with my vision and maintain that 100% UK focus.

So, that's the OASIS done, back again after a four-year absence, and - apparently - here to stay.
The winners list no doubt will be throwing up gasps of surprises, knowing nods and - let's not kid ourselves - great debate.
As I understand it, the OASIS' was done on a pure public vote format, from the nominations through to the winners, so technically the process is transparent. However (if I can point out what some of you are probably thinking anyway) what does that say about the untiring efforts and profile of people like NOEL ROBINSON and GREENJADE (for example) in the wider public psyche...?
I ain't got the answers, but now you might understand my discomfort with awards ceremonies...
I just hope that in the middle of all of this, only one thing remains true: the direct or indirect impact of the OASIS on all of us will be to spur us on to take the message of Christ outside of our walls to the wider world...
Next stop: GEM AWARDS, Birmingham...
