For those in the know, NOEL ROBINSON belongs to a group of key players in the contemporary
UK gospel music industry that continue to represent all that is excellent about what we do.
I've certainly made enough references across many features and articles about how he is one of very few in UK Black gospel music that successfully crosses between Black and White spheres of activity in the UK (not to mention a strong international presence), so I'll leave it there.
This edition of BEHIND THE BEAT looks at NOEL and NU IMAGE's forthcoming double CD album, GARMENT OF PRAISE. However, this BTB is VERY special for a couple of other reasons as well: this is the first article that will be presented in two parts, one per CD, and - I'm REALLY excited about this one - I'm rolling out the UK Gospel.com jukebox for the first time ever!!! Yay!

NOEL'S NOTES
The GARMENT OF PRAISE project is a journey of a Psalmist.
It is written and offered as a eclectic selection, from a real-life
worship perspective, taking man's position, (essentially our
'humanness', in worship), exploring how we can live in our
humanity AND in the realm of the spirit..
As usual with BEHIND THE BEAT, I'll give the title of the
song and the story behind it...
The GARMENT OF PRAISE project is a journey of a Psalmist.
It is written and offered as a eclectic selection, from a real-life
worship perspective, taking man's position, (essentially our
'humanness', in worship), exploring how we can live in our
humanity AND in the realm of the spirit..
As usual with BEHIND THE BEAT, I'll give the title of the
song and the story behind it...

PRAISE AWAITS (Lead: NOEL ROBINSON)
This song invites the presence of God into every situation. It is a call from the body of Christ, wanting God to reside in our lives. Psalm 22 speaks about God inhabiting praise. God wants to be a part of every area of our lives, including the 'hidden area', the part that people don't speak about, behind the mask...
SO SWEET (Lead: NOEL ROBINSON)
This is a celebration song, Caribbean style, with hint of Africa. I can't go too far from my African-Caribbean culture, my roots. It's a joyful song, based on David's Psalm 19, verse 10. God is sweeter than honey and the honeycomb. David says the testimony of the Lord is sure. I did the lead vocals on this one...
YOUR MERCY ENDURES (Lead: NOEL ROBINSON, RON KENOLY)
This is a contemporary worship song featuring Dr RON KENOLY. It speaks
about the mercies of God renewed everyday. I got RON to do this because
I felt it sounded like a song he should do. I've had a great relationship with
him for years, and he's one of the 'fathers' of my ministry.

This is a prophetic song that came about in a church meeting. It is a real proclaimation to God, where we say it's really about Him - nothing else matters...

This is a 70s-style upbeat track. The most important thing about this song is that it carries a very important message to the body of Christ. It deals with divine exchange - changing your earthly attitude to your circustances to one of a heavenly view. It's taken from Isaiah 61, where God is calling the church from a position of mourning to a place of celebration...
THE VLTAVA (interlude) - It's a classical piece from my grammar school
days, written by the classical composer BEDRICH SMETNA. This arrangement is part of a fuller piece of the same name. I just
used a theme from the piece on solo guitar. It reminds me of
a time when I began to explore how composers use music to
describe God, as well as the things around them. Music is
very good at connecting your feelings to a description...

continents I have travelled to. This track came out of hearing a slow latin rhythm, and God giving me words and melody. It is
basically expanding the whole idea of using a rhythm to praise God. Oftentimes people write songs using words to praise God, but it is quite interesting how music and rhythms can capture the heart of God...
YOU ARE MY HEALER (Lead: NOEL ROBINSON and MICHELLE JOHN-ROBINSON)
The title says it. Think about it this way: a man sets out on a
journey; in his mind he assumes there won't be much of
a problem arriving at his destination. He starts the process of

stealing our health, wealth and purposes, trying to stop us
arriving at our destination.
We normally attribute healing to physical ailments, but God showed me a picture of the body of Christ in worship; many could not draw close because they were sick. Sickness of the mind,
and their spirits. God wanted me to declare over people that He is their healer and that they themselves would declare and be set free and draw closer to his presence. I wrote the first part and MICHELLE (my wife) wrote the second part, and I'll tell you something: I'm still living the story myself. God IS STILL healing dead situations...

when the curtain was torn from top to bottom gave us
access to the presence of God.
This is the beginning of worship. The picture of the lamb
slain as a sacrifice is relevant to you regardless of your
culture, colour, musical persuasion, whatever... That
picture I believe is the cornerstone of every Christian's
story...
