CHRISTIAN AID SHOWS COMMITMENT TO UK
GRASSROOTS ACT WITH YEAR-LONG SUPPORT
In our rush to get through the many events happening in the year
it's easy to overlook the significance of things that may not
necessarily have the high profile of a GL LIVE or UNASHAMED
TOUR event...
15 year old ZOE OPUTAH from London's South Bermondsey was the
chosen winner of the national gospel talent competition launched
by international development agency CHRISTIAN AID and record
company ROCKHILL MUSIC.

While many bemoan the dwindling serious label presence in the UK
gospel marketplace (truth be told we never did have much on that
front) it's especially refreshing to see organisations like CHRISTIAN
AID come up with innovative schemes to promote both local talent
and their ministry agenda.
The competition which attracted entries from across the country
(regional heats in Manchester, Bristol, London and Birmingham), meant
Zoe was picked out of 35 acts, seven of which reached the final sing-off
held at the Commonwealth Church, St Marks, Mayfair in London.

Zoe, a member of the WORLD EVANGEL CHOIR as well as youth choir
RARE, sang one of her own songs 'I NEED YOU NOW' at the Harmonise
competition.

Her prize will be to work with professional musicians, recording at a
London studio during the summer for ACOUSTIC GOSPEL VOLUME TWO.

She will also have the opportunity to perform at selected national events
to mark the launch for the album, as well as representing Christian Aid at
various live events and festivals throughout 2009.
Acoustic Gospel Volume Two will be out in November 2008 and will be
available from high street retailers including HMV and Wesley Owen, and
online at Acousticgospel.com, plus - of course - UKGShop.com

DIONNE GRAVESANDE of Christian Aid:
'We are delighted that Zoe, our youngest finalist, has won the chance
to record professionally with Rockhill Music. Competition was very
stiff and she triumphed over many older, more experienced, performers.

The album will not only give Zoe the chance to launch her recording
career but will also raise vital funds for Christian Aids work with
children in developing countries, allowing them to build a better future
for themselves.
LINKS AND CREDITS
Proceeds from the sale of the album will be used to support children in
African countries that Christian Aid operates in.

So another organisation commits itself to the nuturing and growth of UK
talent for at least another year. You know what that means?

There's a lot of support out there - if you just know where to look...
