As the dust of being moved from prime time Sunday morning slot settles, London DJ DAVE P
bounces back with big news..

The fact that the broadcasting media landscape is changing won't be a great surprise to anyone.
The way we consume and interact with our information and entertainment is evolving, forcing media delivery to adapt to our increasing mobility, as well as niche tastes in everything from movies to music to video. This has been excellent news for the Christian faith, as enterprising individuals and ministries now utilise everything from in-house broadcasting and webcasts, to audio and video streaming, to sermons via MP3 to proclaim the good news.

The arrival of on-demand technology, RSS feeds, podcasting and portable media devices - particularly in the past three years or so - has also meant you don't even have to catch your favourite show precisely when it is on air, as you can record, download or get an archived version of the show immediately after broadcast.

I actually listen to BBC 1Xtra's DJ FITZ VIBRATIONS show - which I rarely miss -
via the BBC's 'Listen Again' service. FITZ goes out 6-9 am Sunday, but I catch
the show during the week (it's archived until the following Sunday, and is
available via 1Xtra's website). FOUR KORNERS actually credit FITZ as one of
the main radio DJs that broke their big debut single, CLAP CLAP... It isn't
inconceivable that the playback option had something to do with that.

So: that's the good news.

The bad news is that broadcasters are having to look more critically at their bottom line to justify return on investment. Shows that do not deliver much-needed revenue (primarily through advertising) are either axed or moved. In the UK gospel music industry this turn of events hit London's CHOICE FM's gospel radio show, 'POSITIVE INSPIRATIONS' fronted by DAVE P, very
hard. Specialist shows on commerical radio are more at risk as their audiences are comparatively smaller, and as such deliver smaller revenue.

In August 2006 CHOICE moved POSITIVE INSPIRATIONS from the classic
'Church slot' of Sunday morning 6-9 am to the less church-friendly Sunday 12
midnight to 2:00 am, as part of a 4-show schedule change at the station. CHOICE will probably have a marketing spin on it, but I'm willing to bet that the cash factor won't be too far off the mark...

And while there may not yet be a general consensus as to what it is we - the Christian community - could, should and have done to react to developments, those at the sharp end of things (in this case DAVE P - as opposed to CHOICE FM), have had to act immediately.

So: there's more good news.

For fans of DAVE P's show that are asleep by 12 midnight (you wimps), the information that will bring you unbridled joy is that you can listen to POSITIVE INSPIRATIONS pretty much anywhere and any time you jolly well want.

POSITIVE VIBRATIONS is now available on the Urban Gospel Network MySpace page, and pending the licensing clearances, will also be available as a podcast, giving you the option to download the show and listen on the move.

And if this 'podcast' and 'download' business still sounds pretty much like a dark art to you, well, seeing as you're already online reading this, (and you hopefully have speakers attached to your PC), you can also listen to his show via the wonderful worldwide web at your convenience!
I asked DAVE to send me a few facts and figures through so I can pass the full information on to
you lovely people in UK Gospel.com-land. The fact is you can't keep a good man down, most especially one like DAVE P who has always championed the UK cause. Make sure you stop by and show the man some love. That was MySpace was built for: showing support...
