LIVERPOOL'S 'CITY OF CULTURE' STATUS GETS THE GOSPEL TREATMENT
Liverpool's LJM Group announced the 'City Sings Gospel International
Gospel Music Festival' (CSG 08). Building on last year's success of the
'Amazing Grace Festival' (CSG 07), CSG 08 runs from June 1st - 15th.
The project sets out to promote and develop gospel music and arts in
Merseyside and the North West through the creation and support of
gospel choirs and gospel groups.
From the outset of the Liverpool bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2008, an initial idea for an International Festival of Gospel Music was on the table.
LJM Group with its LOVE & JOY GOSPEL CHOIR had been inspired to improve gospel music capacity and culture in Liverpool by holding a large international event during the spotlight cultural year. It was part of an integral part of the
Gospel Music Festival' (CSG 08). Building on last year's success of the

and took the lead in developing the festival and
conducting the development work.
City Sings Gospel, aims to provide unique and exciting
opportunities for young and old people alike in the
citywide celebration events in 2008.
The festival's mixture of home grown talent and internationally renowned choirs and individuals makes this an exciting contribution to culture in the region. CSG encourages the community to create gospel choir groups, musicians and soloists.
It has been created with the support of the Arts Council and Liverpool Culture Company and since 2004, 30 choirs have been set up with the aid of the City Sings

Businesses, schools, churches and community groups have formed choirs and gospel groups across the North West from Wigan to the Wirral that have been participating in gospel events in the UK. All their effort and hard work will come together in a series of events during the CSG International Festival of Gospel Music
