TO SEE/TO DO...
Call it entertainment - or ministry, the gospel goes out of church
in a big way this holiday weekend...
SO: WHAT ARE YOU UP TO AT THE WEEKEND..?
It's the bank holiday, and despite the fact that it's apparently been the
coldest August for about 50 or so years, the Met office seems to be optimistic about some sunshine for the weekend, and - crucially - London's
Notting Hill carnival on Monday the 25th...
Apart from the London carnival there'll be events around the country (Leeds Carnival for one), so if you like your celebrations with a Christ-based theme (and who doesn't) you shouldn't have a problem finding something...
I thought I'd bring a couple of worthy items to your notice. They have a strong evangelical angle to them, and - unlike a lot of the church-based activity we partake in - both of them expand outwards from platforms already based in the mainstream.
Do what you can to support.

STAYING IN...

DAVE and REVELATION at CHOICE FM
stay in the competition
(Funny aside: when I got the call from DAVE to come out to the show, it happily coincided with my family holiday in London that put me 10 minutes away from the CHOICE FM studios, not the usual 1 hour drive I typically have...)
On the show they are up against the no-less-excellent, effervescent and pop-influenced styling of the young AGM GOSPEL CHOIR, so this weekend's programme (and result) should make for interesting telly. Showy (but brilliant) versus smooth (but equally as brilliant)...? The nation (and you) get to decide!
If this sort of thing tickles your fancy, see what you can do about keeping some great gospel music in the mainstream for as long as possible - MAKE SURE YOU VOTE!!!

GOING OUT...
As concepts go, URBAN MISSION's '3:16 CHALLENGE' at this year's THE GOD CORNER has got to be one of the most innovative, challenging and truly exciting evangelical pitches I've come across in a long while.
I don't go out to a lot of gigs these days (so I'm happy to be corrected here), but a lot of Christian 'outreach' events tend to be primarily populated by Christians.
URBAN MISSION flip the script by challenging anyone who can rap to turn up at their ever-popular GOD CORNER at Notting Hill Carnival and be prepared to give visitors and passers-by an original 3-part 16 bar rap.
In EFREMs words: 'no stage, no high profile...'
Just stopping someone with a bar, engaging them,
and breaking down the gospel.
The 3 16s (get it?) breaks down as follows:

The 3 16s (get it?) breaks down as follows:
- Get their attention
- Give them the gospel
- Testimony: how the gospel is at work in YOUR life.
As EFREM says: this is mic theology... And personally I love the concept!
Full details about how to step up are available on the Urban Mission TV page on YouTube (usual links below).
So whether you're voting to keep gospel music on prime-time Saturday night TV,
or out on the street sharing your testimony in the 3:16 CHALLENGE - or doing something else entirely - have a GREAT bank holiday!
Share the gospel where you can, however you can - and have a good time!
